PRESTRESSED CONCRETE CYLINDER PIPE (PCCP)

Manufacturing of PCC pipe begins with fabricated steel cylinder with joint rings confirming to IS 784:2019 which is hydraulically tested. Concrete is placed at inner side of pipe by using centrifugally casting method called core of pipe. After the core is cured, the steel cylinder is wrapped with HT wire, bringing the core in compression. The spacing of the HT wire as well as thickness of the steel cylinder are proportioned to provide the required strength of the pipe. The steel cylinder and HT wire are covered with high rich cement mortar coating by using High Velocity impaction process.

As per IS 784:2019 these pipes can be economically manufactured from diameter range from 350 mm to 2500 mm and upto 28.length of each pipe shall be 5 m to 7.5 m.

Higher diameter and length pipes are also possible.

Advantages

PCC pipe can be designed for virtually any combination of internal pressure and external loads.

PCC pipe have sliding overlap joint (rigid joint). Easy to assemble due to overlap weld joint, therefore can be installed rapidly and economically.

Pipe joint is rigid so there are less chances of leakage.

After jointing the joint rings are covered with high rich cement mortar mix by using wrappers.

In case of PCC pipe the field welding of the pipe joints resist the hydraulic thrust. This eliminates the need for expensive thrust blocks.

This pipe having lap welded joint which is rigid, pipe line acts as a monolithic structure so it can sustain the stresses developed due to the uneven settlement in black cotton soil.

Generally, the leakage in PCC pipe line is less. It can be repaired by cutting damage portion and welded by thick MS pipe and the coating it by guniting /anti corrosive painting is done and line will be resume earliest.
